Rome Private Shore excursions

We provide a private tour of the city of Rome, carefully organized for cruisers, starting from CIVITAVECCHIA (port of Rome) that guarantees a good outlook of Rome and its major sites.
This private tour enjoys stops at the major sites in the city of Rome.
Your driver will meet you just in front of your ship in Civitavecchia. During the 1.5 hour drive you will acced to the view of central Rome passing by and admiring the Pyramid of Caius Cestius, the ruins of Caracalla Baths, the Capitol and Piazza Venezia, the city’s center square. Your first stop will be The Coliseum, which dates back to 80 AD, and is perhaps the most famous of the city’s monuments. This elliptical amphitheatre is the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. You will have time to walk around the Coliseum to take some photos. Then you will pause at a vantage point overlooking the Forum, where you will admire numerous foundations, columns and arches which survived the religious, civil and commercial hub of imperial Rome. Your next stop is the Trevi Fountain, the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world. Then your driver guide will take you to the Pantheon, one of ancient Rome’s greatest buildings, “temple to all the gods” of Ancient Rome, and rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian in about 126 AD. Next is Piazza Navona, a beautiful square with several baroque masterpieces including Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers. It can be a great place for a lunch stop. Your final stop in the afternoon includes the religious and artistic highlights during your stop at the Vatican and at the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican. Take time to enter St. Peters and admire the High Renaissance and baroque architecture. The church is almost overwhelming, with its grandeur of art in gold, marble and mosaics. Be sure not to miss Michelangelo’s exquisite Pieta, in the right nave as you enter the Basilica, which was completed when the young master was just in his 20s. Be aware that security checks are required at the Vatican and you should expect a wait to enter the Basilica. Time allowed inside the Basilica is based on the required wait time to enter. In the late afternoon you will have a scenic drive back to the pier.
